Pitch Update

16 January 2013

Grounds Manager Andy Thompson gives an update on the preparations ahead of the game against Leyton Orient.

Rovers face the O’s at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and Andy spoke about how he and his team are preparing for the game.

Precautions have been put in place to ensure the game goes ahead, including hiring in extra frost covers from Leeds Rugby Ltd.

“The pitch is looking good,” he said.

“We cleared the snow that was on top of the covers to reveal a soft pitch underneath.

“We’ve got two layers of covers down on the pitch and they won’t be lifted until Saturday morning.

“The weather forecast for the rest of the week is that it is going to continue being really cold. It’s looking like it will be around -4oC during the evenings. There’s also a possibility of snow on Friday night
and Saturday morning – we’ve got plans in place to remove the snow and keep the frost out all week.

“A single layer of the covers we have will protect up to -3°C, so we’ve doubled up on those so hopefully they will protect up to -6°C.

“While the pitch is covered it’s not possible to work on it, so we will be working hard to make sure that the outside of the stadium is safe for when the supporters arrive on Saturday.

“The pitch was prepared before the covers went on, so on Saturday morning it’s a case of taking the covers off, putting the goals up and marking it – the covers will stay down until around 10am on Saturday morning.

“We have taken every precaution available to us in order to ensure that the game goes ahead on Saturday.”
