Dean on a ’Very Good Performance’

22 August 2012

Rovers recorded their first back to back victories in the opening league games of the season, for the first time since the 2003/04 Division Three Championship winning season, against Bury last night.

Rovers fell behind in the game courtesy of an early Shakers’ goal, but they showed great spirit to fight their way back into the fixture.

Kyle Bennett scored his second goal in as many games, before Chris Brown made it three in three to seal the points.

Manager Dean Saunders was pleased with the way his team continued from where they had left off against Walsall at the weekend.

‘It was a very good performance,’ he said.

‘We put ourselves in a tough situation losing a goal from a corner, but I knew this was going to be a tough game.

‘No matter what you say in the dressing room, there’s still going to be a little bit of a hangover from Saturday; first game of the season and you win 3-0.

‘I was a bit concerned that we might take this game as if we were going to win and it would be easy, so my team talk was about not underestimating them because they’ve got some good experienced players.

‘Without singling anybody out, I thought that there were some really good performances out there today, and as a group we have dug out a result.

‘I thought the fitness work we did in the pre-season has helped us; we were driving the game right till the end.

‘With six minutes to go we got the goal, but I think we had about fifteen/twenty chances before that – they had a few  chances too and maybe could have scored’.
