Four In A Row This Weekend?

22 November 2012

Dean Saunders’ men will be looking to make it a happy foursome against the Iron, who have failed to take a single point against Rovers since a 2-2 draw at Glanford Park back in September 2009.

Rovers had raced into a two goal lead thanks to Martin Woods putting away an early penalty before Billy Sharp scored against his former employers, but minutes later John Oster was dismissed and the hosts took advantage of the numerical advantage and Cliff Byrne reduced the deficit. With just three minutes left Quinton Fortune was also shown a red card and Grant McCann snatched an unlikely equaliser in the last minute from the spot for Scunthorpe.

However, since then it has all been decidedly one sided we have scored at least three goals in the last three games against the side from down the M180 who have struggled to contain the might of Rovers.

The thrilling seven goal win at the Keepmoat later in the 09/10 season, was followed by an impressive win in the first meeting against Scunthorpe in October 2010. Rovers fought back from a goal behind after Martyn Woolford had broke the deadlock for the hosts, with Billy Sharp netting a brace to give Rovers the lead before James O Connor scored what would be his last goal in Doncaster colours put the seal on a fine victory.

Last time out of course at the Keepmoat there could be no doubt in who was the deserved winner, with three goals of scoring prowess for Rovers and no reply from the visiting Iron. Billy Sharp got his eighth goal of the season to open the scoring with James Hayter and loanee Joseph Mills both adding to the total before the break, effectively ending the game as a contest.
