Brown Signs New Deal

8 July 2013

Doncaster Rovers are pleased to announce that striker Chris Brown has signed a new 2 year contract with the club.

Rovers Player caught up with Brown after he signed his new deal which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2015.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new deal,” he said

After scoring 11 goals last season to help Rovers win the League One title Brown admitted it was an easy decision to make when he was offered the new deal.

The striker said: “Especially after the success that we all enjoyed last year, I’m really pleased that I have got it all sorted – I just can’t wait for the season to start now.

“This is a great club, there’s a great set of lads here and I’m looking forward to working with the manager and the players that are here.”

Brown, who joined the club for a second time in 2011 from Preston, went on to explain how tough pre-season under the new manager has been but understands it’s a small price to pay for a successful season.

With five goals in the opening two friendlies of the year the 28-year-old is loving being back on the pitch in what he believes is the most important part of pre-season.

He said: “Training has been tough; we have been doing double sessions but there has been a good mix of base level fitness work and ball retention and small sided games which you need as well.

“Now the games have started it’s about getting as fit as you can and making the most of the time on the pitch to get up to 100%.

“It’s never easy getting fit but it is something that you have to do to get a good level before the season starts. You want to be training as much as you can and playing as much as you can during pre-season to get to where you want to be.”

The striker is enjoying life under new manager Paul Dickov and believes adding him to the close group of players already at the club will only be a positive going forwards into next season.

“The gaffer has said that if you work hard you have got half a chance with him. Especially here there are a lot of honest lads who give everything they have got. Everybody makes mistake, we’re not going to be punished for making mistake, but rather judged on how we are going to react to those mistakes. Everyone is pretty clear on where he stands, if you drop below the standards that are expect then you probably won’t be playing in his team.

“It’s going to be a really season with the amount of top teams that are in the Championship, as a player those are the games you look forward to.”
