Rovers bring in striker ahead of today's game against Barnsley
Rovers manager, Paul Dickov, has gone into the loan market for a striker after losing Billy Sharp to a three-game ban and Theo Robinson to injury. With crucial games coming up, he has signed promising 22 year old Aston Villa striker, Jordan Bowery, on a initial one-month loan in time for today’s game.
Jordan started as a youth player at Derby County before signing professionally at Chesterfield. After impressing with the Spireites, Jordan joined Villa from Chesterfield in August 2012 to become Paul Lambert's sixth signing for Villa. Described as 'strong and powerful' by Lambert following his move to Villa Park, Bowery was one of a number of young, hungry additions to the squad during a busy summer.
He initially believed he would be plying his trade in the Aston Villa development squad but was pleasantly surprised as Lambert told him he would be forming part of his first-team set-up.
He produced some fine performances too, especially against Stoke in the 3-1 win at the Britannia Stadium.
Bowery played twelve times during his debut campaign - four from the start and eight from the bench. He made his Villa debut at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City.
Jordan, “When I joined Villa, the Chesterfield manager told me I would be in the development squad and that’s what I was expecting.
“But from my first day I was training with the first team and I was really buzzing. It was a massive surprise to me.
“To jump from League Two to the Premier League was incredible.
“It’s the same game in any league but at this level there are more technical, smarter players, and you have to adapt to that.
“I’m learning from everyone around me – Gabby Agbonlahor, Darren Bent, Charles N’Zogbia, all of them.”
Jordan will be number 34.
