Mason thanks Ferguson

20 April 2017

Niall Mason is grateful for the faith shown in him by manager Darren Ferguson in his first season in senior football.

The Aston Villa loanee has played a key role in helping Rovers gain promotion to Sky Bet League One, and believes an extended run in the team has brought out the best in him.

“It’s been brilliant for me personally, I’ve learnt a lot this year and had a good season which is my first in professional football,” he said.

“The manager has been fantastic with me, I’ve got a lot to thank him for as he’s given me a chance to play and he’s great to learn from.

“When a manager puts faith in you it’s important to repay that, I’ve given 100 per cent this season to ensure that I don’t let anybody down.”

With promotion secured, Rovers travel to face Wycombe this weekend with all eyes on the race for the Sky Bet League Two title, and Mason says the players are embracing the pressure that comes with being at the top.

“Something we’ve been good at all season is just focusing on the next game, when you start looking too far in advance that’s when things can start to go wrong,” he added.

“We’ve got the upper hand at the moment in terms of league position, we have to go into the game in a positive mind-set and full of confidence.

“It’s been a really good season, we’re happy with promotion but we’re all still striving to finish the job off in style and win the league title.”
