Learning curve for Houghton

17 February 2017

Jordan Houghton is using last season’s disappointment as his motivation to get Rovers promoted from Sky Bet League Two.

Houghton was part of the Plymouth squad that lost in last year’s play-off final, and the Chelsea loanee is using the memories of that to ensure Rovers get over the line and seal promotion this season.

“They were clear early on last season and just started to drop points, losing a few games against teams from the bottom end of the table,” he said.

“It was a good learning curve to be under pressure, and that will stand me individually and this football club in good stead between now and the end of the season.

“Hopefully I can make things right and get that promotion this season. I’s important that we remember where we are, we’re doing very well. We could be 14 points clear with a win against Luton.”

The 21-year-old midfielder has been a mainstay in the starting XI this season, and hopes to continue his consistent form in the latter part of the season.

“I’ve played most weeks which is really pleasing for me, I feel like my fitness levels are improving all the time,” he added.

“Every game is a big one at this stage of the season, if we put another run together then hopefully we’ll be there and pushing for the title.

“We’ve got to be professional both on and off the pitch, into the final third of the season we need just one last push to get us over the line.”
